Mr. Darcy

Mr. Darcy soon drew the attention of the room by his fine, tall person, handsome features, noble mien, and the report which was in general circulation within five minutes after his entrance, of his having ten thousand a year. The gentlemen pronounced him to be a fine figure of a man, the ladies declared he was handsomer than Mr. Bingley, and he was looked on with great admiration for about half the evening, till his manners gave a disgust which turned the tide of his popularity; for he was discovered to be proud; to be above his company, and above being pleased; and not all his large estate in Derbyshire could then save him from having a most forbidding, disagreeable countenance, and being unworthy to be compared to his friend.

Mr. Darcy is perhaps one of the only characters in literature to make an entire town despise him without having said a single word to anyone.

So now that we have established that Mr. Darcy is not a jerk, and is actually just socially awkward, the natural question that follows is how did this socially awkward guy become the object of so many women’s affections for over two hundred years?

The Actions of Mr. Darcy That Made Us All Fall In Love With Him

The way he dotes on his sister and is always writing her letters. What a good brother!

His Bromance with Bingley

His manners.

How he expects everyone to be honorable.

How he finds Wickham and Lydia and saves the family from ruin.

And when he does talk the words he says are pretty wonderful:

So in conclusion, Mr. Darcy is a good guy. A really good guy. Is he deserving of his reputation as being one of the most romantic male leads ever? Maybe, maybe not. I mean when it comes down to it is he any better than Mr. Tilney or Mr. Knightley?

I’m still not sure. But he’s a really good guy and a great character.

Plus, he has ten thousand a year!
